at the AoC Sports National Championships

Our very own Petersfield hockey players, defender Tom Stevens and forward Matt Cooper were selected to represent the South East as part of the Godalming College hockey team.

Cooper and Stevens travelled to the University of Nottingham where they battled against athletes from colleges across England, Wales and Northern Ireland during the three-day AoC Sports National Champions Event. College athletes competed across 13 different sports, including football, squash, hockey, basketball and cricket.

Representing the South East hockey team, Cooper, Stevens and the Godalming squad faced tough opposition from some exceptional teams. Godalming, who have only had a hockey team for 2 seasons and train indoors, battled their way to victory, beating West Mids 2-1, South West 4-0, Eastern 5-1 and the final game Yorkshire and Humberside 4-0.

As well as individual glory, teams will be aiming to accumulate points for their region and win the prestigious Wilkinson Sword trophy. The success of the South East hockey squad helped the South East win the coveted title for the third year in a row, finishing with 210 points, ahead of arch rivals South West, who claimed the runners-up spot with 168 points.

A sterling performance put in by Tom and Matt make us at Petersfield Hockey Club very proud. It is great to see our young players enjoying hockey and representing us on a regional level.
