PETERSFIELD TEACH UNIVERSITY A LESSON

Petersfield travelled away to bottom placed Southampton for their last fixture of 2014 which also marks the halfway mark of the season.
Southampton started the game and rapidly found themselves in trouble with the whole of the Petersfield squad pinning them back into their own 25. All Petersfield players hassled the opposition and caused frustration with their marking for the first 10 minutes of the game. Petersfield once in possession dominated play and caused further problems for Southampton. The Southampton GK was put under immense pressure after a string of penalty corners came his way along with a flurry of attacks on the Southampton goal. Twenty minutes of attacking the defence of Southampton and peppering the Southampton GK with shots on goal finally came to a goal from Ramsey. This style of play continued throughout the half and forced an own goal along with goals from Grinstead and Martin. Southampton took precise shooting when give one opportunity at goal after a counter attack led to a 1v1 which Ross could not prevent crossing the line leaving the score 4-1 at half time to Petersfield.
Petersfield continued the second half exactly how they ended the second. Petersfield dominated the game at every angle of the pitch meanwhile a Southampton attack saw Hart struck in the ankle with the ball which side-lined him for the remainder of the game. Despite being down to 10 men, Petersfield continued their play and gained further goals from Martin, Grinstead, Hind and Ramsey, to take the score to 8-1. Grinstead’s shot on goal was stopped illegally on the line which Martin stood up to the penalty spot and missed. With heads down after being unable to extend their lead further and the squad tiring from being 1 man down, Southampton took advantage and managed to squeeze the ball into the goal in a crowded circle where the game came to an end at 8-2.
Petersfield remain in 2nd place within the league, 3 points adrift from league leaders Wimborne. Petersfield kick start the second half of the season mid-January.
