Petersfield played a much changed team against a young Gillingham side. The home team started well and their focused attacking hockey was rewarded with an early well worked goal between J. Atkinson and tucked in at the back post by Cooke-Priest. Petersfield continued to play strong attacking hockey securing two more goals by half time bringing the half time score to 3-1.
Clay marshalled the defence well and fought off a revitalited Gillingham side who pinned Petersfield back in their own half for much of the second half, clawing back 3 more goals. Petersfield managed to hang on to their lead by scoring twice more and finishing the game 5-4.
Petersfield play Gillingham again on Saturday for the return match.
