U8’s WIN SILVER MEDALS AT THE JOHN WRIGHT TOURNAMENT

Hockey clubs from around the area send their strongest teams to compete at the John Wright Tournament organised by Havant Hockey Club. The only tournament where you can win medals! The Petersfield team had one thing on their minds as they went into battle at this tournament, to come home with a medal around their necks – but what colour would it be?

Petersfield played in Pool A, meeting Trojans, Reading, Havant, Chichester and Haslemere in the heats. With precision and finesse Petersfield ambushed their opposition with attack after attack, the striking duo of Stanbridge and Bhattacharjee drove the attacking action in the D with Stanbridge, Rushin and Hegan taking advantage of every counter attacking opportunity. The strong midfield play came from Rushin, Hulme, Hill and Morris, positioning themselves well to drive the ball up the field to the attacking players. Some of the best play came from Petersfield’s defence who guarded their territory like a pride of lions, Hegan and Barnes kept a clean sheet through the first 5 games. The exceptional Petersfield side played 5 games, winning them all.

Petersfield found themselves in the final against Fareham. A quick Fareham goal caught Petersfield off guard, quickly followed by another, a ball in the face took Hulme off the pitch and while the team battled on, they were unable to even the score. Momentary disappointed with the result soon turned into smiles when the tournament runners up were presented with their shiny silver medals by a current U16 England Hockey player.

Silver medallists at the John Wright Tournament is a great achievement and a brilliant way to end the U8’s season at Petersfield Hockey Club.
