The Petersfield U8 squad got their first experience of tournament hockey on Sunday and it proved to be a resounding success thoroughly enjoyed by all. For many of the team, having only picked up a hockey stick for the first time a few weeks ago this was a chance to put some of their new skills to the test within a team environment. They grew into the tournament and steadily improved game by game. Coolly marshalled at the back by a combination of George Sands, Cody Callard-Williams and Alexandra Temple the defensive team mopped up any pressure that came their way impressively conceding just the one goal in five matches.
A very competitive midfield of Beatrice Porter, Harry Cleife and George Shanks were quick to close down any threatening breaks from the opposition and with at times some slick interplay and strong running provided a spring board for numerous successful attacks. The finishing touches were provided by Thomas Crabtree and Islay with moments of flair from Tom Shanks.
Overall it was satisfying to see the young players begin to understand their roles within a team and with a score sheet of played 5, won 4 and drawn 1 (10 goals for, 1 against) the future is bright for Petersfield Hockey Club and most importantly a fun morning at Haslemere Hockey Club was had by all.
