Petersfield under 10s B team
Jessica Cocker, Isabelle Davis, Ellie Gardner, Alex Hulme, Ella Jackson, Serena Mckenzie, Ben Shine, Elliot White, Max White, Alexander Young
The team comprised of several players who had previously competed in tournaments where their team had failed to score so it was with some trepidation that they lined up against Haselmere C in the first game of the morning. Any doubts were soon dispelled, with Petersfield dominating possession and territory from the first whistle. With captain Mckenzie leading by example, Petersfield recorded a comfortable 2-0 win, with goals from Mackenzie and M White. Petersfield's back two of Jackson and Cocker did very well to keep their concentration with all the action at the far end of the pitch.
Petersfield's second game matched them against Haselmere D and again the home team struggled against a team buoyed by their opening victory. Hulme showed great skills down the left wing and, supported by determined running from E White on the other wing, claimed the first goal. Max White added to his tally with two more to complete the scoring in a 3-0 win for Petersfield.
The pattern continued against Havant. Another dominant Petersfield display saw the team camped in the opposition half. Mckenzie was seemingly everywhere, tackling, passing and taking free hits. Her efforts paid off with a further two goals. The ever skilful Hulme also scored a brace. 4-0 to Petersfield.
With a taste for goals now established and backed up by committed tackling, particularly from a tenacious midfield of Davis, Shine and Young, Petersfield carried the momentum into their fourth game against Chichester. Mckenzie claimed her fourth goal in as many games. E White grabbed a goal of his own and Gardner scored a third, deserved reward for hard work throughout the tournament. Again the defence of Cocker and Jackson held out with Petersfield recording a fourth clean sheet and another 3-0 victory.
The final game saw Petersfield up against a Portsmouth side which also had a 100% record. Something had to give and unfortunately Petersfield conceded their first goal of the tournament half way through the match. Despite continued attempts, most notably from Hulme and Shine, the Portsmouth defence held and the game finished 0-1. A disappointing end to the day but the team was delighted by their performances overall, particularly the 12 goals and four clean sheets.
