"The team started brightly with a well-worked 3-0 victory over Haslemere D - Young proved a very effective scoring-zone poacher netting 2, with McKenzie adding a great individual third strike after demonstrating his '3D' skills down the left flank. To be fair, Mckenzie was nearly credited with the second but Young touched it home so they agreed to divide the spoils 1 1/2 each! We were passing the ball laterally and breaking quickly - excellent to see. Haslemere C were next and the team won 2 - 0 with Stanbridge slotting home both goals and completing a couple of excellent 'Indian dribbles' down the right wing. Fareham B were also defeated 2 - 0 with Mckenzie adding 2 more goals to his tally and Pruden showed off some training ground skill with a text-book drag-back, but narrowly failed to convert the chance he created. Special mention must be made of some excellent tackling from Marks and Jackson in the midfield and defence respectively - three games played and no goals conceded.
Gosport A were tougher opposition and again our defence held out for most of the match against some excellent individual skill. Pruden put Petersfield ahead after a strong run, but Gosport's pressure eventually told and the game finished a fair 1 -1. Our final match against City of Portsmouth B was our only loss of the day, but the 0 - 1 scoreline could have been far more had it not been for some resolute tackling by Barnes, Liddle and Jackson and Marks once again. The team worked hard with little respite between matches and by the last match the sun was beating down on some tired legs - a great effort by all. My player of the tournament was Marks who tackled extremely effectively and distributed the ball sensibly to the forward line once he gained possession - well done!
