Petersfield W2 vs Hamble 2s

Petersfield started out strong, putting Hamble on the defensive. Good attacking movement by Virtue, Fitzhardinge, Green and Bruce in midfield, as well as quick turnovers of any Hamble attempt to push into the Petersfield half, meant that Petersfield looked on track for another win. Despite a number of chances on goal and a couple of short corners, Petersfield were unable to capitalise on their time in front of goal. Hamble settled into the game and had a number of breakaway opportunities, but the teams went into halftime 0-0. Hamble came out strong in the second half, with Sebastian-Todd, Day, A. O’Sullivan and Callaghan having to work extremely hard in defence, and Temple making a number of great saves to keep Petersfield in the game. Petersfield continued to fight, with Virtue and L. O’Sullivan making some great link ups on the left wing, and Stratton-Brown hitting terrific crosses into the D, which Bruce was unlucky not to get on the end of. Petersfield had two goals disallowed, with Fitzhardinge scoring from outside the D and a belter from Simmonds going in slightly too high from a short corner. Eventually Petersfield managed to break the stalemate with a team effort goal, scored by Stratton- Brown. Hamble continued to push for a goal right until the end, including a final short corner after the whistle. Despite Hamble’s efforts, Petersfield held on, ending the season with a hard fought 1-0 win.
