The weather was fabulous, albeit very hot for hockey. The 2nd team fielded a young side with a few old timers to steady the ship. With no available goal keeper, Simmonds stepped up to wear the pads. The match started evenly, with attacking play at both ends of the pitch. Simmonds was forced to make some excellent saves, showing exceptional flare given it was only her second time in goal. There was great defending by Keech, H. Donovan, Owsnett and particularly A. Stratton-Brown on her debut for the club.
There was some fantastic play by the midfielders O'Sullivan, Morley, Z. Thomas, G. Stratton-Brown and Wells, driving the ball up the pitch despite the heat of the day. The forwards, Day, A. Thomas, Parker and E. Donovan, showed great teamwork and had several attempts on goal but couldn't get passed the Chichester wall. Unfortunately, after further amazing saves, Chichester finally put one past our keeper. Half time score 0-1.
Chichester started strong in the second half scoring 3 quick goals despite the best efforts of our defence. But Petersfield were not about to lie down and hit back with an excellent goal from G. Stratton-Brown followed quickly by a second from A. Thomas. Sadly Chichester were not finished and scored a further 3 before the final whistle. Final score 2-7.
