Petersfield started to show what they could be capable of in a tight 2-2 draw away against Fareham. Ethan Casson made goalkeeping look easy, with two well-judged clearances against an opposing forward free running into the D - although these were just highlights amongst a host of other excellent saves. That said, the Petersfield goal was never really under siege, mostly due to some strong tackling by George Shaxson, Archie Ingham-Thomas, Henry Plewes and Kieran Brown in defence.
Sam Price and Freddie Slingsby broke up play effectively in the midfield zone and picked up the missiles that Freddie Anderson was launching from our Defence, letting Tom Cooke-Priest loose on so many runs up the right flank that he began to run out of steam! Max Wallis is starting to come into his own on the left side of midfield, with two or three reverse stick crosses and excellent decision-making when under pressure.
What was most pleasing, however, were two extremely well taken goals from our striking pair of Ollie S and James Hill. Ollie received a well-struck pass at the top of the D from Freddie A and thundered the ball from the top right of the D into the back of the goal - oh yeah. Not to be out done, James Hill - having decided to beat one of the defenders a couple of times -found himself on the far left of the D, just 5 yards out from the goal line and thumped the ball on the reverse into the far left corner of the goal. Unstoppable. Certainly the best goal we have seen from any Petersfield player at this level!
An excellent team performance; some great saves, plenty of good passing, determined tackling and a couple of cracking strikes. Most enjoyable - well done boys and thanks to the parents for their vocal support!
