The Under-12 Falcons put in a spectacular performance at today’s tournament, showing exactly why they are a team on the rise. Efficiently organised by Kirsty and supported by a full squad—including coaches Ed and Matthew and two energetic substitutes—the girls delivered an incredible string of performances across four 12-minute matches, winning two matches despite playing without a goalkeeper (come back soon Phil!!!).
Tactical Masterclass and Fluid Passing
As the tournament progressed, the Falcons played better and better hockey. The core theme of the day was composure. Instead of forcing the play, the girls focused heavily on passing the ball quickly and accurately sideways and backwards to stretch the opposition before launching their attacks forward.
The improvement in their game management was immense:
* Pre-Scanning: The girls showed fantastic awareness, looking around to spot their teammates before receiving the ball, which allowed them to release clinical, first-time passes.
* Composure: The panicked clearing passes of the past completely vanished, replaced by calm, calculated team play.
* Elite Movement: The tournament culminated in a breath-taking sequence inside the opposition's D, featuring four quick, short passes that completely carved open the defence.
The fluid movement and tactical maturity on display would not have looked out of place in teams significantly older and more experienced.
Progression and Pride
Playing high-level hockey without a last line of defence is incredibly difficult, making the two victories an even greater achievement. Every single player should be immensely proud of how they stepped up, covered for each other, and executed the game plan.
The Falcons are getting better with every single match as the basics of good hockey truly begin to shine through. A massive well done to the entire squad: Alice, Annie, Clemmie, Ella, India, Iris, Isabelle, Ismay and Rosie —keep up the brilliant work!
