Petersfield's second mens team returned to Hampshire hockey league action after a 5 year absence with an away fixture against Hamble. Fielding a team made up of youth and experienced players they ran out 4-2 winners in a hard fought match played in very wet conditions.
After a hesitant start Petersfield increased the intensity of their play and scored first though Ali Wheeler, returning to action following a long term manhood injury. Petersfield then lost concentration and after some Inspector Clouseau-like defending Hamble equalised.
Composure returned to the team and after good work in midfield Tom Knowles scored after good work on the right wing by Eddie, who's cross was cleverly passed back by Tom McDermott for centre forward Knowles to flick the ball home.
Hamble scored again, but 2 goals late in the first half through Shappley's wonderfully executed reverse stick shot, and Wong's well placed short corner shot meant Petersfield regained control of the game.
Although the second half was scoreless, the energetic Wong and Anderson combined well in midfield creating chances for Wheeler, and then Shappely, to blast over the bar. Towards the end of the game Broadmeadow, in goal, made a fine save and Petersfield maintained their 2 goal cushion at the final whistle.
