Petersfield Mens 2nd XI start the season off with a draw
Petersfield Mens 2nd XI started the season away against Fareham 6. First challenge to navigate through the M27 closure to start the game on time!
Petersfield got off to a fine start, applying early pressure that resulted in a trademark tomahawk strike from Ian Pruden into the top left corner of the Fareham goal.
Fareham adopted the rather odd tactic of playing half-court despite being a goal down, and at one point against 10 men. Petersfield played keep ball and towards the end of the first half Fareham changed tactics and started to press our defence. They tested our goal keeper Charlie Weller who made some excellent saves confirming his promotion into the 2nd mens XI.
Early season fitness took its toll and the first half ended 1 a piece.
Petersfield started the second half well and won a series of penalty corners from great forward work of Rory Plewes and Duncan McDermott. Richard Thompson put one of them away with a rifle shot into the bottom left corner.
A goal line scramble resulted in another goal for Pruden with a controlled flick over the keeper stretching the Petersfield lead to 1:3
Fitness took its toll once again and the game ended as a three all draw with Fareham scoring two goals in the last 10 minutes.
Mens training is at 7.30pm Tuesday evenings, Bedales school.
