Six of the best

Petersfield Mens 2nd team return to winning ways by beating Salisbury 3s at home.

After a bad run of three losses Petersfield 2s get back on track. It took a little while to settle, and Salisbury went ahead very quickly by scoring a penalty corner, but some great link up play down the left with Gavin Marshal and Ben Rowley set the pace for the afternoon. A fast pass from Ben crashed the ball towards the left hand post allowing Pruden to fly across the keeper touching it inside the post to level the game.

Petersfield had the majority of possession and some great passing play allowed Angus Kilpatrick to set up Ian Pruden for an open side shot on goal taking us to half time 2:1.

Salisbury were good on the break and even better at penalty corners they brought the game level again early in the second half with another powerful short corner strike.

Our turn!

Unlike previous games this season our short corner routines were sharp. Henry Plewes injecting some pacy balls and Lee Harris with an exquisite drag flick. Our first short corner hit the crossbar, but there was no mistake in the second. Harris rocketing the ball into the top right corner.

Petersfield continued to win a series of penalty corners, and despite the Salisbury keeper getting wise to the ‘Harris rocket’ he could only parry the ball back. Lee took his second on the rebound.

Ben Rowley was particularly impressive on the left wing consistently nicking the ball and running at pace towards the Salisbury goal. He was rewarded with a goal of his own after a one two with Pruden.

However Salisbury did not give up and clawed one more back from open play before Harris completed his hatrick. This time scoring a penalty corner drag flick to the other side of the keeper.

The game ended 6:3 to the home team. Next week we travel to Andover. Same again please.
